Feed Cost per kg / lb Gain
Use weight gain
Gain basis: birds sold × (final weight − starting weight). Use FCR defined as feed used ÷ this weight gain. Do not enter FCR on final live weight from the existing FCR Economics calculator.
Formulas
Gain per bird = final − starting weight. Total gain = birds sold × gain per bird. Feed = gain-based FCR × total gain, or recorded total feed. Feed cost = feed × price per mass unit. Cost per gain unit = total feed cost ÷ total gain.
Hypothetical example
Example: 10,000 birds, 0.04 → 2.50 kg. Total gain = 24,600 kg. At FCR 1.65 and 400 per metric tonne, feed used = 40,590 kg and feed cost = 16,236: 0.6600 per kg gain. Scenario B at FCR 1.60 and 410 per tonne costs 0.6560 per kg gain; the flock saving is 98.4 in the selected currency. Hypothetical example, not an efficacy claim.
Comparison limits
Total feed used may include feed charged to birds that died and charged wastage. This is an economic gain measure for birds sold, not a mortality-corrected research FCR. Both scenarios hold bird count and weights fixed; other production costs are excluded.
Units
A metric tonne is 1,000 kg. A US short ton is 2,000 lb. Feed and weights must describe the same accounting period. Unit changes do not convert currency.
